Anyone manage to switch to a decent energy deal this year?

With the sky high price rise in energy in the last few months it's been the first year in memory that I haven't been able to find a cheaper or similar energy deal anywhere online. Bill Buddy, Look After My Bills etc are coming up with exactly the same prices that the online comparison sites are suggesting in 2021 it is impossible to get any sort of "deal".
2020 I managed to get through Shell Gas Unit Rate 2.480p per kWh, Gas Standing Charge 11.130p per day - Electric Unit Rate 14.879p per kWh, Electric Standing Charge 15.572p per day and cannot get near those prices, so anyone had any luck with a certain comparison site or independent provider?

Not sure if you can bore your own well on your land. Probably not without paying for the privilege. Two wells at the property where grew up which didn't have mains water until the 60s probably. PROPER RURAL.
I'm pretty sure that if you have a pond or lake on your property you own the hole in the ground and the fish that swim in it but the water does not belong to you.

And also keep a good record of what you use so you know the best deals. Simple excel sheet will do the same calculation as MSE (weigh up the unit cost v standing charge and work out the annual spend) but they will give you the providers on which to base your choice. Very easy to change providers, you don't need to use a U Switch type site you can go direct to the new company who will do all the spade work, but I don't begrudge MSE any commission they might make, they are honest about and overall they have saved me a bundle of hard earned over the years.
BTW Utility Point for me, did not give me any savings but was fixed and I presumed prices would go up.

Can you still sink your own well/borehole?
I remember the house I grew up in, in Chadwell Heath had it's own well (a proper lob coins in & make a wish version, too), that my father covered over (mainly for safety reasons) when he got the house connected to the mains (all lead pipes, though).
The drains were always connected to the street sewer though.

Water is a pisstake.
I get billed by two companies, one for the water into the house (Thames) and the other (Anglian water) hits with a sewerage / drainage bill calculated on 90% of the volume of the water that I've paid Thames for.
Bastards.

Thanks all. No wiser unfortunately. Goto Energy didn't even give me a quote, Cheap Energy Club comes out more expensive than the comparison sites, all over £100 per month. The cheapest strangely is Scottish Power.

I am now with Goto Energy, was with So Energy before that.
I change every year using Quidco as soon as the contract gets to the point where you don't have to pay an exit fee.
I will never understand the need for all these different companies, some of which are surely just tinpot operations in cheapo hired offices. It's not as if some bloke flicks a switch to change which power station your leccy is coming from or fucks about with a few valves to alter the source of your gas.

Gone with a green tariff with Octopus. I like their customer service and their trading model so although it wasn't THE cheapest I could get it was the one that made me happiest and the costs were still reasonable.
The solar panels are going a decent job even in this shitty cold spring weather.

We've been using Martin Lewis for a few years now and always comes up trumps he will even inform you of a better deal halfway through an agreement where it pays to accept the penalty !
This year we're with Pure Planet and have been cheap and without problems.

What I am never sure of is are you better off looking at the unit rates or the standing charge rates? Ovo have quite low standing charges but the unit rates are quite high compared with others.

Was with Octopus but left after a year as they wanted to shove up my monthly payments by £25... told them to stuff it... been with Ovo for 2 years now... paying same as I was originally with Octopus and still in credit... only thing they are crap at is converting your old meters to smart meters... done the electric one no probs but been nearly 9 months waiting for them to do the gas one... apart from that been an excellent company

I went fixed rate with Octopus a month or so ago. But that's mainly to charge the missus's car cheaply at night.

Tried Utility Point but sky high for me. It seems I got a good deal on the standing charges. BTW I know it's not about West Ham but I like to keep warm and make a cuppa whilst watching them on TV!

What a thriller. I like saving money. I switched to UtilityPoint about six months ago. It was a few pounds more a month than my previous good deal but the monthly payment halves for the summer six months which is all saving.
Energy companies appear to have gone the way of insurance, a loss leader/good deal in the first year and then a hike in the second year, have now changed supplier four times in four years to avoid hikes.
